HULL
The hull is a single-skinned GR laminate. A structural inner moulding formed with unidirectional materials is bonded and laminated to the hull at various points. This plays an important structural role by absorbing the loads and pressure points (shroud chain-plate tie rods, keel, rudder, etc) throughout the structure, spreading these to reduce stresses on the hull. The surface material of the inner mouldings make it easier to clean and provides a better finish.
DECK
The deck is of injection moulded (glass fibre /balsa/resin
sandwich) construction for enhanced strength and optimal
insulation.
HULL / DECK JOINT
The hull deck joint is formed by an unvarnished teak
toerail, bonded and screwed in position. It's mechanised
assembly ensures that the hull deck joint is watertight,
and provides extra safety while moving about on deck.
KEEL
The cast-iron keel can be pivoted and manoeuvred by
a manual worm-screw system, operated by a winch
handle.
To improve their durability, the keels undergo
treatment prior to assembly in the factory (anti-corrosion
and improved finish, being coated and painted with
an epoxy-compound based material). Adjustable runners
are used for controlling this assembly.
STEERING SYSTEM
The twin GRP rudders are raised by a sleeve system.
The teak tiller has an extension with universal joint
roller.

PRESS RELEASE From Bénéteau
12 July 2007
FIRST: A CONTINUING SUCCESS STORY!
In 2008, the First's little sister will have Style!
In the tradition of the First 50, the new First 21.7S, 25.7S and 27.7 S will display a new hull livery, Weng laminated soles, Interior woodwork in lightwood (Alpi light oak like the First 50), and grey tinted windows (a colour that enhances interior light).
These evolutions will be developped on the whole First range that is to say for the First 31.7, 34.7, 36.7 and 40.7.
ON THE FIRST 21.7S
Changes to CE regulations have forced us to take another look at the 21.7 S validation.
New Boat models can no longer be declared unsinkable; the First 21.7S has the advantage of a great volume hidden foam buoyancy giving more available space in the forward and aft berths.
More space down below!
The First 21.7S, re-certified this year is a really 2008 new model. Without the regulations on the unsinkability, the First 21.7S benefit from more space inside.
* Reduction in space taken up by the chain locker
* Locker space under forward berth increased
* Additionnal space aft of the saloon settees (for stowage of mooring lines and fenders, or luggage!)
*New centreboard casing assembly.
New deck!
* New cockpit coaming design with more comfortable seats.
*Improved companionway hatch opening mechanism.
* Stowage space aft of cockpit accessible by deck hatch (option).
The First S Range and evolution on the bigger First will be exhibited in Southampton, La Rochelle and Barcelona Boatshows.
