HULL -
The hull is single-skinned laminated GRP.
A structural inner moulding formed with
unidirectional fabric is bonded and laminated to
the hull. Its structural role is important as it takes and
absorbs the stresses at pressure points (chain plate
tie rods, keel, rudder etc.) and spreads any loads, guaran
teeing reduced strain on the hull. The surface to the
inner hull makes it easier to clean and provides a better
finish.
The hull gel coat is grey in colour.
- DECK -
The deck is balsa sandwich construction (glass fibre,
balsa, polyester resin) for an optimal strength/weight
ratio and for good thermal and sound insulation.
A roughened non-slip surface increases safety over all
areas of movement on deck.
An inner deck moulding is sealed to the deck to round
off the finish.
HULL/DECK JOINT -
The hull / deck joint is secured by a bare teak toerail,
bonded and screwed. This assembly technique ensures
water-tightness of the hull/deck joint and provides safety
during movement on deck.

Glowing achievements for the Firsts in England!Excellent results in the Round the Island Race and IRC National Championships
No less than 41 First 40.7s took part in this year's Isle of Wight Round the Island Race, held on the 23 June, in which more than 1,700 yachts competed! A record number of participants in a single race for this benchmark club-racer. Of course they raced in their own class, but in their category, in IRC Division 1 C, out of 52 competitors, the First 40.7 took the first 3 places!
In the IRC Division 2 B, out of 63 starters the First 34.7s No Doubt and Salvo took 2nd and 3rd podium places, which, along with Astarte coming in 5th, meant 3 First 34.7s were placed in the first five. In the IRC Division 2 C (with a lower rating), the First 34.7 Jos of Hamble took 3rd place on the podium.
In the ISC Division 4 A, there was victory for the First 50 Novus Arca!
A highly successful Isle of Wight Round the Island Race performance for the Firsts!
The English IRC National Championships took place over the following weekend, 29th/30th June and 1st July.
In this prestigious and hotly contested championship, the First 40.7 Love Shack skippered by Tim Spalding not only won in its IRC 1 category, coming in before another First 40.7 Incognito, but also carried off the coveted RORC IRC Championship Trophy, finishing 1st overall. The First 44.7 Courrier du Coeur skippered by Géry Trentesaux came 2nd overall, winning the Jackdaw Trophy. He finished first in his IRC 0 category.
By such performances the Firsts have confirmed, as if there were any need, their undoubted supremacy in the club and production line boat racing fields. Many congratulations to all the First crews, who will be lining up again in August for the forthcoming Cowes Week sailing regatta.
